May is national high blood pressure awareness month. High blood pressure is probably one of the most common findings during a Dot physical-not surprisingly, as hypertension affects approximately 31% of the U.S. population, which translates to more than 60 million Americans.   Having high blood pressure will not only limit how long you can be certified for during the DOT physical, but may prevent you from passing the physical.  Most importantly, hypertension causes significant health risks, and can strike without warning.  See previous post on “hypertension and the commercial driver” and read the following important consumer updates below.
